FAQs
What is proofreading?

Proofreading is the final stage in the editing process. Proofreaders look for any mistakes that may have slipped through previous editing phases, such as spelling, grammar, punctuation, and consistency. This is the last chance to catch any mistakes before publication.

Why do I need a proofreader?

A proofreader helps ensure your writing is polished, professional, and error-free, which boosts your credibility and helps you make a strong impression. When you’re too close to your work, it’s easy to miss mistakes; a fresh, unbiased set of eyes can catch errors and clarify your message.

Proofreaders go beyond what automated tools can do, catching subtle issues and ensuring your content meets formatting or citation standards. Hiring a proofreader can save you time, money, and potential embarrassment.

What do proofreaders offer writers?

Proofreaders provide a final layer of quality control. They make sure your writing is clear and as error-free as humanly possible. They check for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and consistency, helping your work appear professional and trustworthy.

For writers, this means:

  • Consistency: Ensuring style, tone, and formatting align with your goals or guidelines.
  • Clarity: Making sure your message is easy to understand.
  • Credibility: Removing distracting mistakes that could damage your reputation.
  • Confidence: Knowing your work is ready to be published.
Are there documents you don’t proofread?

I do not work with erotica or sexually explicit content or content that has a lot of profanity or crude language.

What if my book isn’t “Christian”?

As long as your book is a clean read (meaning no graphic sex scenes or crude language), I would love to talk to you about working together. I enjoy working with all types of content and also love supporting authors who are putting good, clean books out into the world.

What software does my manuscript need to be in?

I prefer to work in Microsoft Word. It allows me to use Track Changes, so you can see the edits I make. It allows you the option of accepting or rejecting those changes.

When do I send my manuscript?

You can send your manuscript after it has been through other rounds of editing. As a proofreader, I’m only looking for little mistakes that may have found their way through other editing phases.

Usually, authors start with developmental editing, then copyediting, before proofreading. There’s also line editing, which focuses on word choices.

What payment methods do you accept?

I invoice through Wave, which accepts all major credit cards. You do not need an account with Wave to accept or pay your invoice.
