FAQs

Proofreading is the final stage in the editing process. Proofreaders look for any mistakes that may have slipped through previous editing phases, such as spelling, grammar, punctuation, and consistency. This is the last chance to catch any mistakes before publication.

A proofreader helps ensure your writing is clear, accurate, professional, and ready for publication. This boosts your credibility as an author and helps you make a strong impression on your readers. When you’re too close to your work, it’s easy to miss small mistakes. A fresh, unbiased set of eyes can catch errors. Proofreaders go beyond what automated tools can do. They can catch subtle issues and ensure your content meets formatting or citation standards. Hiring a proofreader can save you time, money, and potential embarrassment.

As long as your book is a clean read (meaning no graphic sex scenes or crude language), I would love to talk to you about working together. Use the contact form to ask me if your project is a good fit.

I work in Microsoft Word, which allows me to use Track Changes so you can see the edits I make. You then have the option to accept or reject my changes. I also work with PDFs, where I leave comments as necessary for you to change. I do not work in Google Docs.

After your manuscript has been through other rounds of editing. As a proofreader, I’m only looking for little mistakes that may have found their way through other editing phases. Usually, authors start with developmental editing, then line editing/copyediting, before proofreading. Once these edits are complete, fill out the form to book your project. I will contact you so we can chat more about your goals, and I will ask for your manuscript then.

I accept all major credit cards and PayPal through my invoicing system.

My goal is to polish your words, so I will never change your authentic voice.

I hear this a lot, honestly. And, unfortunately, I’ve seen a lot of self-published books with bad reviews due to a lot of typos and formatting issues. That makes books hard to read, and readers won’t read anything else written by those authors. Mistakes are distracting. My answer to this is a simple yes. Professional editing and proofreading save you time and money, since there will be no need for reprints.

Good question! If you’re planning to publish traditionally, now is a good time to find and reach out to agents and create a list of publishing houses. If you plan to self-publish, get your author platform up and running, create your marketing plan, and research self-publishing options and how-tos. I have lots of good articles on my blog on marketing and promotion for authors.
